Episode 27: A Practical Guide to Responsible Gas Sourcing: What Buyer Expectations, ESG, and Methane Rules Mean for Operators
In conversation with Tatiana Kurancheva, Head of ESG Programmes at Responsible Commodities Sourcing Initiative (RECOSI)
Add bookmarkIn this episode of Methane Talks, we sit down with Tatiana Kurancheva, Head of ESG Programmes at the Responsible Commodities Sourcing Initiative (RECOSI), to explore how oil and gas companies can practically manage ESG risk across increasingly complex global gas supply chains, and why acting now is so crucial.
As ESG scrutiny and regulatory expectations intensify, paired with growing buyer pressure, Tatiana shares insights on what responsible gas sourcing looks like in practice. She explores why collaboration between buyers and suppliers is so important for unlocking progress as "there is simply no one size fits all (approach)", and how initiatives like RECOSI are helping companies navigate complexity through continuous improvement rather than prescriptive compliance.
The conversation also delves into the implications of the EU Methane Regulation (EUMR), the growing role of utilities and buyers in driving upstream performance, and how responsible sourcing frameworks can complement established methane initiatives.
This episode is essential listening for companies grappling with ESG expectations, buyer influence, and the EUMR, and are looking for practical pathways to stay credible, compliant and commercially resilient in an evolving gas market landscape.

About RECOSI:
The Responsible Commodities Sourcing Initiative (RECOSI) is a global membership organisation that develops solutions to drive continuous improvement in responsible commodities sourcing.  Our members are the most forward-thinking energy and infrastructure companies.
RECOSI is the only membership body that actively develops ESG programmes in responsible commodities sourcing. As a leadership organisation we bring together companies to work on responsible energy commodities sourcing practices, developing solutions that can have real world sustainability impacts.
One of our key initiatives is the RECOSI Gas Programme, a new ESG framework, developed by RECOSI members, for responsible gas supply chains from production to sale. The Programme is the first of its kind and was driven by the leadership of our members and shaped by stakeholder expectations and the evolving regulatory requirement.
