Dear Methane Mitigation Community,
Methane Mitigation Europe is entering a defining chapter.
The legislation is set. The clock is running. Yet many of the questions that will determine what implementation looks like in practice remain unanswered.
Operators are already making critical decisions around measurement, monitoring, verification, reporting, abatement and supply chain requirements — often before the full implementation framework is complete. Questions around verification, transparency, data, equivalency and international supply chains continue to evolve, while the consequences of getting those decisions wrong are becoming harder to ignore.
The Methane Regulation is unfolding against a much broader energy landscape. Europe is navigating questions around security of supply, affordability, industrial competitiveness and the future role of natural gas, while simultaneously seeking to accelerate emissions reductions across the value chain.
As the EU framework begins to influence international supply chains and trading relationships, methane performance is becoming part of a much bigger conversation about how Europe sources, trades and consumes energy.
So the question is no longer simply: how do we comply? It is also: what will this regulation mean for Europe's energy security, competitiveness and relationship with global energy producers and suppliers?
These questions cannot be answered by technical teams alone. They require dialogue between operators, regulators, policymakers, technology providers, financial institutions and international stakeholders — bringing together those shaping the framework with those responsible for implementing it.
That is what makes Methane Mitigation Europe different.
This is not simply a forum for interpreting legislation or discussing the latest measurement technology. It is where the industry comes together to understand what is actually happening, what remains uncertain, what is working in practice, and what the implications will be for Europe's wider energy landscape.
Through candid operator case studies, regulatory perspectives, technical expertise and discussion with key stakeholders from across Europe and beyond, we will explore how organisations can move forward while the framework continues to evolve — and how the decisions being made today could shape the next phase of methane action globally.
Because this is bigger than compliance.
How Europe responds to methane will influence the relationship between environmental performance, energy security, international trade and competitiveness. And as the EU approach increasingly reaches beyond its borders, the decisions made here will have implications far beyond Europe itself.
What happens in this next chapter will be looked back on as an inflection point for methane management. Methane Mitigation Europe is where that next chapter gets debated, challenged and shaped.
I look forward to welcoming you to Amsterdam this March.
