12:30 PM Workshop G: Offshore Methane Measurement: Combining Technologies to Unlock Successful Reconciliation
When a previous reconciliation fails to clearly explain detected methane emissions, how can operators build a more robust understanding of what is happening on the asset? Drawing on an offshore case study, this workshop will explore how satellite observations and complementary site-level technologies can be applied together to identify and quantify both "hot" and "cold" methane emissions. Participants will examine how using two different measurement approaches almost simultaneously and combining the strengths of each can help resolve previously unclear emission points and support a successful reconciliation.
• Explore the challenges of reconciling methane emissions when detected emission points are not clearly understood in terms of their location or quantification.
• Examine how satellite and site-level technologies can be deployed complementarily, using the different strengths of each approach to investigate offshore emissions.
• Work through the methodology of conducting two different site surveys almost simultaneously to identify and quantify "hot" and "cold" methane emissions.
• Consider how the results from different technologies can be compared and combined to build a clearer understanding of emission points and their contribution to overall emissions.
• Discuss the conditions, considerations and lessons that can help operators apply a multi-technology approach to achieve a more robust and successful OGMP 2.0 Level 5 reconciliation.

Explore how methane analysis at thermal oxidisers can provide new insight into hydrocarbon streams that cannot be measured directly through existing field instrumentation. Discuss how operators can use exhaust gas measurements and process modelling to improve emissions quantification at ageing and poorly instrumented assets. Share approaches to overcoming brownfield measurement challenges where retrofitting new instrumentation may be technically difficult or costly. Examine how these methods can support both improved emissions data and broader operational understanding.
