The EU Methane Regulation is moving from legislation into lived industry experience, but the implementation picture is far from settled. As operators, Competent Authorities, standards bodies and industry associations gain experience with the Regulation, the critical question is no longer simply what the legislation says, but what is working, where implementation is falling short, what remains unresolved and what could change next.
• Take stock of implementation to date: What have the first months of practical application revealed about what is working and where are operators and Competent Authorities encountering the greatest challenges?
• Unpack what remains outstanding: Where do delegated acts, technical standards, verification frameworks and accreditation pathways still need to provide greater clarity, and what should operators be watching for next?
• Compare implementation across Europe: How are Member States and Competent Authorities interpreting and enforcing the Regulation in practice, and where could differences create challenges for cross-border operators?
• Look ahead to 2028: As evidence builds on what is and isn't working, what might potential revisions or a formal review mean for the future shape of the Regulation and how should industry prepare?
