Erin Tullos

Research Fellow UT Austin

After earning her PhD in physical chemistry—focusing on the chemical kinetics of tropospheric ozone formation and the molecular dynamics that influence stratospheric ozone depletion—Dr. Erin Tullos devoted nearly 20 years to tackling air quality and greenhouse gas emissions challenges in the oil and gas sector. She is currently the Co-director for the Center for Energy and Environmental Systems Analysis at the University of Texas at Austin, specializing in methane research. Earlier in her career, Dr. Tullos spent 14 years in various environmental roles, including research, regulatory advocacy, and compliance, making significant contributions to organizations such as ConocoPhillips, Phillips 66, and ExxonMobil. While at ExxonMobil, she led pioneering research on cost-effective methane detection and mitigation, oversaw large-scale testing of methane detection technologies, and fostered interdisciplinary collaborations like Project Astra and Project Falcon. Following her industry tenure, Dr. Tullos launched Veritas—a distinctive gas initiative for GTI Energy—and served as Director of the Aerial Measurement Program at Scientific Aviation (post-acquisition by ChampionX). She also advised an emissions measurement, reporting, and verification software company and contributed as Senior Advisor and Uncertainty and Reconciliation expert to the Oil and Gas Methane Partnership (OGMP 2.0) at the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).
