12:30 PM Workshop I: Rethinking Methane Management Across DSO Networks: The Italgas Innovation Playbook

DSO networks create a very different methane-management challenge to upstream and midstream operations: emissions are often smaller, more dispersed and harder to isolate across extensive, complex infrastructure. So what does an effective methane management model actually look like when you are managing emissions at this scale? As a founding member of OGMP 2.0 and a recognised leader in empirical measurement, Italgas has been pushing the boundaries of what is possible—from advanced sensing and continuous monitoring to using network intelligence to prevent emissions at source. This workshop will open up the Italgas approach and examine what it can teach the wider DSO community.

• Challenge conventional approaches to methane management across distribution networks and examine where established practices may no longer be sufficient.

• Compare the operational trade-offs involved in deploying new measurement, monitoring and network-management technologies at scale.

• Examine the business case for investing in methane innovation, including where better emissions intelligence can support wider network efficiency and operational performance.

• Debate what comes next for DSO methane management, identifying the innovations and approaches most likely to move the industry forward.
